Ed Atkins

Ed Atkins works predominantly in video and writing, more often than not trying to think about where and what bodies are, as mediated through contemporary technologies of industrial moving image-making. Bodies are rendered, defined, de-materialized, literally as well as figuratively. His work is, in some ways, an insistence made against these processes’ life-likenesses as recuperative attempts on lives and retarded experiences, relationships. He often uses these very techniques of representational ascendancy to describe those experiences that precisely elude repossession.

Ed Atkins will show 4 works at the Cinema Dynamo: two shorter works – Even Pricks (2013) and Warm, warm, warm Spring Mouths (2013) – and two longer works presented in Switzerland for the first time – Death Mask 2: the Scent (2010) and Death Mask 3 (2011).

Atkins (London, 1982) has exhibited internationally, including recent solo exhibitions at Kunsthalle Zürich (2014); Temple Bar Gallery, Dublin (2013); MoMA PS1, New York (2013); Chisenhale Gallery, London (2012). Atkins’ work is currently exhibited at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery in his largest solo exhibition in UK public institution to date.

The films Death Mask 2: the Scent (2010) and Death Mask 3 (2011) will be screened until 17.08 at Cinema Dynamo (Tuesday-Sunday 11-18h).
