ANIMATION THURSDAYS WITH STUDIO GDS

ANIMATION THURSDAYS WITH STUDIO GDS

What is Les Mercredis et Jeudis de l’animation?

A free trip to discover contemporary animation and meet the people who create it. Depending on the year, 8 to 10 events are proposed, mainly in the form of animated short film screenings or workshops. Details of each program are announced a week in advance. All programming is free, but we ask you to reserve your seats in advance, either from our calendar, or from our  ticket office. It’s very quick and no personal information is required.

When will the show take place?

In 2024, screenings take place from February to April, then in October and November (see details here). Children’s events take place on Wednesday afternoons, while Anim’Apéros for adults start on Thursday evenings. Be sure to check the schedule before joining us!

Who are we for?

All audiences (sessions from 4 to 6 years old, workshops from 8 years old), or for teens and adults (from 16 years old), as indicated.

And where are we?

In 2024, we’ll be operating in three different venues, all located at the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève: the Bâtiment d’Art Contemporain conference room is behind the entrance to the Centre, and can accommodate up to 100 people; the  Cinéma Dynamo, a magnificent small auditorium seating around 40, is on the 4th floor; and the PLAYGROUND, a new mediation space shared by MAMCO, CAC and CPG, whose entrance is at the corner of the building, rue des Bains 28.

Studio GDS was born of the shared passion of three graphic designers drawn to illustration, drawing and painting. Stimulated by the many animated films they had seen in Annecy, they decided to get together in a backyard in Carouge to take their first steps in this field. After a few trials, encouragement and the help of experienced authors, they made their first films, alternating between television credits, illustrations and graphics. Gradually, animation became their main activity. Each of them is free to develop his or her own projects, making films according to his or her desires and aspirations at the time. Sometimes a trip interrupts the activity of one or the other, sometimes a meeting leads to co-direction or collaboration on a common project. After 50 years of non-frenzied activity, perhaps the greatest surprise is that they are still practicing this expression that some find so strange and laborious, when in fact it seems to them to be rather jubilant…
