Voci per Voci

Readings from the Psicoenciclopedia Possibile by Gianfranco Baruchello

A programme imagined with Ambroise Tièche

With the voices of Cléa Chopard, Alix Debraine, Gilles Furtwängler, Federico Nicolao and Leonardo Pellicanò

The quick visits, via the dictionary, from the source language to the translation for this French-speaking author confirmed the intuition of this reading project. The welcoming French word “entrée” (entry) corresponds in Italian to voce and the Voci (voices).

By dint of its levels of writing and methods of construction, this book, which in principle is meant for silent reading, assiduously reminds us and discusses in numerous entries the importance of the body and physical experience. Assigning the reading aloud to Italian- and French-speaking readers – in the material space shared with the images that correspond to the 33 entries selected by Gianfranco Baruchello and Carla Subrizi, who also decided the spatial layout – is a way to reincarnate and sonically deploy what has been put on paper. It is also a question of sharing texts using gesture, the bridge of translation, but also of pointing up the polyglossy that runs through the book. Although it is written in Italian, Psicoenciclopedia possibile contains many other languages, in particular French, English, Arabic, Chinese, Latin and German. Recourse to the translations of entries, some of which will be read in Italian while others will be in French, by five people, who will embody them, also has the aim of bringing out the musicality specific to each language. It is essential to include the murmur, both precise and abstract, represented by the abbreviations and enumeration, which, by their appearance and the inventive phonation that they demand, are meaningful elements. Also read what you don’t read out loud, hear and listen by looking at what is there.
