Seb Coupy – Lux

Seb Coupy
Lux

The Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève is happy to present Lux (2012, France, 50 min), a medium-length documentary by Seb Coupy, a Swiss artist born in 1971 in Geneva, at Cinema Dynamo. Coupy’s work is often the result of an encounter between an object and a question and revolves principally around the real.

Located in Burkina Faso, Lux focuses on the question of electricity supply in villages, where having light is a true luxury. The film recalls cinema’s secular interest for spectral presences and other luminous appearances and evokes the mysterious through the use of light and dark. The night, protagonist of this film, detains its own specific spatio-temporal logic, at the same time poetic and unusual, embodying the links of causality in a purely cinematographic way.
